Working Together – A Note on Communication & Collaboration

Hi! A quick note to support smooth and respectful collaboration. I'm autistic, and while this brings many strengths to my work—focus, depth, creativity—it also means that certain ways of working can be unexpectedly challenging. Sharing this is my way of making collaboration clearer, more effective, and ultimately more enjoyable for everyone.

1. Scheduling
If we’ve scheduled a meeting or studio visit, I begin preparing well in advance—mentally, emotionally, and energetically. Last-minute changes or cancellations are difficult as they require extra processing and because I will have already expended energy in preparation. If something has to shift, I completely understand—advance notice and clarity are really helpful.

2. Clarity
I thrive on clear, direct communication. The more information you can give (especially for collaborative projects), the better. Vagueness means I spend a lot of energy trying to fill in the gaps, which can be tiring and sometimes anxiety-inducing. Bullet points, clear expectations, and timelines are very welcome! Asking you questions helps me get clear on things and do a good job.
3. Honest & Open Communication
I value honest dialogue and clear boundaries. If I'm over-communicating or asking for too much detail, please feel free to tell me—gently and directly is best. I won't take it personally.
4. Planning Time
My thinking style means I work best when I have time to prepare. This enables me to give you my best, most thoughtful work. If things need to change in a project, I appreciate a little time to process.

Thanks for taking the time to read this—I really appreciate collaborators who respect difference and meet each other where we are. I hope this helps support a more easeful and creative working relationship.

Warmly,
Chantal
