THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE

This major exhibition spans four floors of the historic house at 16 Queensbury Place and features over 100 artworks alongside rare archival materials.
It showcases artists from the mid-19th century to the present day working with hidden knowledge or a mediumistic or visionary focus.
Works by Chantal Powell are shown in a room titled 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘐𝘴 𝘢 𝘉𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 in dilalogue with Ithell Colquhoun’s dream diaries
“. .Drawing on alchemical imagery, esoteric and mystical traditions, the works engage with a connection to the Earth and unseen realms through symbolic imagery, ritual and embodied experience. The starting point is a dream diary entry by Ithell Colquhoun in which she reflects on her animistic beliefs and the Earth’s sacred centres . .”
Nature’s Blent, 2025 was made in response to Colquhoun’s Fire & Water, 1941 which is on loan to the college and hangs on the adjacent wall.
Both relate to the alchemical union of opposites and Divine Androgyne.
